Article date: 30 Dec 2007

CYBERJAYA University College of Medical Sciences' (CUCMS) Moral Education Class of 2007 organised a Pledge an Organ, Save a Life campaign recently.

The National Transplant Resource Centre (NTRC) chief coordinator, Datin Dr Fadhilah Zowyah Lela Yasmin Mansor and her team gave an insight on organ transplants in Malaysia.

The event was witnessed by CUCMS president Tan Sri Dr Johari Mat, provost Dr Mohamad Salmi Mohd Sohod, academics, administrative staff and students.

In his welcoming speech, Dr Johari said though the number of donors today might be small, they had managed to help those in need.

Dr Fadhilah presented a talk on the plight of hundreds of patients awaiting organ donation.

She said the donated organs were insufficient in ratio to the number of patients on the waiting list.

Dr Fadhilah, in her talk dismissed the many myths and unreasonable beliefs associated with organ transplants.

At the close of the campaign, 27 students registered as donors.
