PETALING JAYA: Despite losing his eldest son in a skiing accident in Australia, George Lee is a proud father. He gave the gift of life to seven others.

Convinced he was doing the right thing, Lee signed the consent papers to donate his 22-year-old son Danny Lee Guang Hui’s organs three years ago after the accident left him brain dead.

Lee, his wife Jennifer Yiong and younger son Calvin share a thought for Danny at the home

Danny’s heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, corneas, bones, limbs, pancreas, skin and blood, benefited seven young Australians, mostly in the same age group as him.

Lee, a newspaper agent in Kota Baru, receives feedback from the Capital Territory Organ Donation Coordinator in Canberra and updates on the recipients of Danny’s organs.

For the past three years, he had also been invited by the team to attend memorials, held once a year and to meet up with other families of donors and recipients.

Lee has been attending the gathering and was moved whenever he was told of the updates on the recipients who had been given a second lease in life.

“My son is gone, but many lives still go on,” he said.

On Aug 4, 2006 Danny, who was studying at a college in Sydney, was skiing at Selwyn Snowfields with friends when he fell from 2,000m. Although he was able to get up, he complained of a headache and collapsed the following day.
