KUALA LUMPUR: The National Transplant Resource Centre (NTRC) at Hospital Kuala Lumpur is normally closed on Sundays but several people walked in to pledge their organs yesterday when they found several staff manning the centre.
Dr Lela Yasmin Mansor, 48, chief national transplant co-ordinator of the NTRC, who happened to drop in at the centre, ended up answering phone calls requesting pledge forms and providing forms to those who walked in.
Ng Chee Chin, 28, a licensing officer with Music Authors Copy Protection and his sister Chee Yeeng, 31, an IT analyst from Melati Utama, were just trying to locate the NTRC at Hospital Kuala Lumpur after breakfast yesterday.
Assuming the centre would be closed, they had planned to locate the place and obtain the pledge forms another day. They ended up signing the pledge forms at the centre.
“It had been on my mind for some time to pledge my organs but I never bothered to actually sign up.
“I also did not know where the NTRC was located and where to get the pledge forms.
“I finally decided to do it today,” said Chee Chin, who also said he planned to put the location of the NTRC in his blog.
Chee Chin and Chee Yeeng, from Menglembu, Ipoh, pledged all their organs.
At the Gerakan National Delegates Conference held at Menara PGRM, which ended yesterday, 29 people pledged their organs at a booth set up outside the Dewan Wawasan Hall.
